Fire Alarm Activation Reported at Commercial Building

City of Watertown Fire responded to a fire alarm activation at Thrive, 138 Winthrop Street in Watertown, shortly after 2:10 p.m. on April 9, according to dispatch radio traffic. Engines 1 and 2, along with the truck and rescue companies, were dispatched after the alarm panel indicated a second-floor activation at the commercial building.

During the response, Engine 2 reported a detector activation on the second floor in room 3, but responders initially found no apparent cause. Radio traffic then indicated that Watertown fire units were clearing the scene within minutes of arrival. A later update from the chief reported the alarm had been triggered by vaping and that the fire alarm system had been reset.

The incident remained limited to the alarm investigation, with no fire conditions or additional hazards reported over the radio. The call was cleared at 2:19 p.m., about nine minutes after dispatch.
