Fire Alarm Activation Reported at Waste Facility

Felts Mills Fire was dispatched at 2:45 p.m. to a fire alarm activation at the Waste Management facility at 22360 Card Road in Black River, according to dispatch radio traffic. The commercial alarm call was initially reported near County Route 144 and Whitaker Road. During the response, dispatch advised crews of a second alarm activation, and a county coordinator reported arriving in the area.

By 2:57 p.m., the incident had escalated when dispatch radio traffic indicated a reported vehicle fire at the same facility. Rutland Fire was requested for mutual aid, and responding units were directed to operate on Fire Tac 1. Shortly afterward, dispatch advised that the fire involved a garbage truck that had been moved away from nearby structures. County Car 500 then reported that the truck’s load had been dumped and that crews found only a smoldering pile of garbage remaining on scene.

As additional mutual-aid units responded, County 500 directed incoming apparatus to access the scene from Todd Road and continue through the facility gate to the fire location. Rutland Fire units, including a tanker, acknowledged the directions and continued into the site. At 3:14 p.m., Rutland tanker reported the fire was contained and that additional units could be canceled. The incident was cleared after about 28 minutes, according to dispatch radio traffic.
