ATV Crash Leaves Child Unresponsive

Natural Bridge Ambulance responded on mutual aid into Lewis County for a serious ATV crash at 12150 Beartown Road in Natural Bridge on Sunday evening, where dispatchers initially reported a child was unresponsive. The call was dispatched at 5:14 p.m., with Natural Bridge Ambulance requested to assist at the Beartown Road address near Texas Road.

Shortly after dispatch, a Natural Bridge unit began responding as troopers relayed that bystanders on a trail were walking back toward responders to help flag down the ambulance, indicating the patient may have been off the roadway. Responders sought clarification on whether the crash scene was on the road or on a trail, while Lewis County coordinated the broader response. By 5:22 p.m., crews were advised that air medical had already been requested through Lewis County.

As the incident developed, responders reported that two victims were conscious and that a helicopter was being sent to a landing zone. One assisting unit was redirected to help establish the landing zone because enough personnel were already at the crash scene. The landing zone was confirmed in place by 5:56 p.m., although the helicopter’s arrival time remained uncertain and was expected to be delayed.

Natural Bridge’s responding unit cleared the incident at 6:14 p.m. One minute later, county radio traffic indicated the aircraft had developed issues and Mercy Flight was unavailable, prompting arrangements for ground transport to Syracuse instead. The incident was closed at 6:15 p.m. after about an hour on the scene.
