Vehicle Reported Overturned in Injury Crash

A rollover crash on U.S. Route 11 in Evans Mills prompted a multi-agency rescue response early Saturday after a vehicle was reported on its side with injuries near 28933 US-11. Evans Mills Fire and ambulance crews were dispatched at 5:17 a.m., with New York State Police also involved. Initial radio traffic confirmed the vehicle had overturned, and arriving ambulance personnel reported a single vehicle off the roadway in a swampy area.

As crews assessed the scene, the response escalated into a technical access and extrication operation. Radio updates indicated the patient was about 40 to 50 feet down an embankment, leading command to request a Stokes basket and additional manpower. Calcium Fire was called for rescue assistance, and Pamelia Fire was requested for manpower and later confirmed it was bringing a rescue basket. A paramedic response was also checked, and air medical was considered, but a helicopter was unavailable because of weather.

Command directed incoming units to stage at the town office parking lot and use that area as the extrication point, with responders accessing the scene through the town office building. Crews were instructed to assist with patient packaging before movement and later to bring cribbing to stabilize the overturned vehicle before working around it. Pamelia Rescue arrived near the end of the incident and was assigned scene lighting. The incident was cleared at 5:41 a.m., about 23 minutes after the initial dispatch.
